Fun with Reading

Mr. Broughton- Student affairs Director. He read the "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs". Students loved his voice and expression while reading.

Reading with Mrs. Elsa- Natomas School librarian. She has been coming to read every other week. She has been reading winter books and Caldecott books.

Caldecott ceremony. As a class we watched who won the Caldecott and Newberry awards.  We read twenty-five of the Caldecott books. The winner of the Caldecott was Locomotive and the Newberry winner was Flora and Ulysses. I ordered that book. Mr. Wuffles was given honor. That was one of our classes favorites.

Mystery Reader- Allie's mom

Class read of "Mouse and the Motorcycle" by Beverly Cleary.  We are half way through the book.  The students are really enjoying it. They think it is funny and want to keep reading it. Next, we start literature circles!

Madelyn Guest Blogger for February 3rd to the 7th:

What is happening in Mrs. Gauthier's class?

  • Creating a poster for idioms. We learned what idioms are and discussed some common idioms that we use on a regular basis.

  • Ask your child about this parts of speech game.  It is one of their favorites and a great review for parts of speech.

  • Drawing a Polar Bear from the tundra.
Students had step by step verbal directions and they had to try and create a polar bear. Next we are going to a grassland animal.

  • Math time! Starting division. Students are using marshmallows to understand the basic concepts of division. Using food, counters, beans, etc are great visuals!

  • Check out this Biome Song that our class has been learning and made the tune for:

Pennies for Patients:
Our school is doing Pennies for Patients. We had an assembly and learned about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The assembly taught us about the healthy cells in our blood. We also learned about cancer cells which attack people's bodies. We are thankful to be healthy. Star Academy decided to help raise money for Pennies for Patients. Hopefully we can help and make a difference! How much can our class raise??? The deadline is 2/13.

If we raise a 100 dollars we get a bronze pennant, silver pennant we get 200 dollars, and a gold pennant is 300 dollars. If the school raises 500 dollars, then the class who raises the most will get a pizza party.

Please help and make contribution! It makes a difference. Let us help beat cancer!!
We can do it!!
